We will do this 11.8-mile out-and-back trail near Cave Creek, Arizona. Trail has about 2700 feet of elevation gain so pack your water. We will drive 35-40 minutes to the trailhead in Cave Creek from Anthem

This is a popular trail for backpacking, camping, and hiking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The best times to visit this trail are October through May. Dogs are welcome and may be off-leash in some areas.
When hiking this trail, be on the lookout for petroglyphs. Although the trail is generally well-maintained, it is advisable to download the map. Take extra care not to miss the turn onto Cottonwood trail, as it's easy to end up half a mile in the wrong direction at that point. Once you reach Skull Mesa trail, it…
